Conor Murphy is a set and costume designer for opera, theatre, musicals and dance. He trained at Wimbledon School of Art and gained an MA in Scenography in Utrecht, Holland.

Opera designs include Alceste (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon), Tristan und Isolde (Staatsoper Hannover), Elektra (Gothenburg Opera), Orphée et Eurydice (Royal Opera House & La Scala, Milan), Lohengrin (Royal Swedish Opera), La clemenza di Tito (Opera North), La Bohème (Nationale Reisopera), The Magic Flute (Korean National Opera), Salome (Opéra National de Montpellier), Powder Her Face (Opera Vlaanderen & Royal Opera House) and Die lustige Witwe (Korea National Opera).

Musicals include West Side Story (Cape Town & Johannesburg) and Chicago (Staatstheater Braunschweig).

Designs for theatre include The Government Inspector, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Woman and Scarecrow and The Crucible (Abbey Theatre, Dublin); The Birthday Party and Juno & the Paycock (Bristol Old Vic), Richard III (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and Ice Road (Raucous, Bristol).

Designs for dance include Labyrinth of Love and Tomorrow (Rambert), The Four Seasons (Birmingham Royal Ballet) and Giselle Reloaded (Donlon Dance Company).

His work has been shown at the Prague Quadrennial, at many UK and Irish design exhibitions and at World Stage Design. At WSD2013 in Cardiff he was awarded bronze for ‘exceptional achievement across all categories’. At WSD2017 in Taipei his designs for Orphée et Eurydice received the bronze award for ‘Performance Design’. At the 2018 Naledi Theatre Awards in South Africa he was awarded ‘Best Set Design’ for West Side Story.
